Rail Service returns to Mare Island

Ongoing series:  Good things are happening on Mare Island

I was recently met Randy, an accountant who is relocating to Vallejo to take a job with ALSTOM on Mare Island.    When I asked what the company produced, he said it was high-speed passenger train cars and they export their product all over the world.  Apparently, they specifically chose Mare Island because it had rail service to their worksite, so they can send out their vehicles on rails, instead of trucks. More information is available on their website, http://www.transport.alstom.com/home/

Also, the local newspaper has been writing about new business owners who are looking to use the rail service to and from Mare Island.  This is great news, indeed, as several years ago there was talk about removing the rail service to Mare Island.   It was obvious that once removed, there most likely would never be this type of transportation  available, again.   See link for article  http://www.trainorders.com/discussion/read.php?1,2162587

When the rails are repaired and operational, it will attract additional businesses to this region, which will be good for all residents on Mare Island, both the residential and business.   How will everyone benefit?  The special tax districts paid by the residents was supposed to be spread out among a larger group of people, but plans were disrupted by the economic downturn.    As more business locate to Mare Island, and more homes are built and vintage homes rehabbed and occupied, more taxpayers will lessen the individual tax bill.  Lower taxes for all will be the result.   Who doesn’t want that?
